Bring an existing utility or laboratory report and the model of any equipment you already own. Do not collect a water sample for laboratory testing without the required instructions and containers. PFAS analysis is a separate paid service, not an ordinary showroom sample check.
Compare equipment with a plumber
Ask what the equipment is intended to change, how that relates to your water, where it would be installed, and how it is maintained. Have the model number and performance information available for review before purchase.
Softening and filtration solve different problems. A softener reduces hardness; a contaminant-specific filter needs a claim for the substance you want treated. An NSF/ANSI number alone is not proof of PFAS reduction.
Bring the discussion back to your home
Installation planning includes the supply, existing plumbing, space, drainage, flow needs, and access for upkeep. A larger system is not automatically the better fit. Get the proposed work and price in writing.
